The Pettit Environmental Preserve is certified as an Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary\, providing safe haven for native animals and plant life. The Preserve is a place for environmental studies and serves to educate the young and the old about nature and environmental stewardship. Serving as an outdoor laboratory\, the Preserve hosted 1\,380 school aged children on field trips in 2016.
