DESCRIPTION:"The Civil War as a Launching Point for the Modern Embalming Industry"\n\nSeptember 29th at 7 p.m.\n\n\n\nOn September 29th at 7 p.m.\, former Bartow History Museum staff member\, Elise Petersen\, will discuss the increased necessity and use of the embalming process during the Civil War period. Find out how the perspective on death and loss changed during the war. Hear about the embalming industry's pioneers and the rapid developments made in embalming between\, 1861-1865. Lastly\, only a small number of soldiers were embalmed. Learn who qualified for and received embalming services\, and how embalmers knew who to treat after battle.\n\n\n\nThe lecture is free to members and included with the price of admission for not-yet members.
