SUMMARY:Bartow History Museum Evening Lecture: Turning Point of the Civil War
DESCRIPTION:The Turning Point of the Civil War\n\n\n\nOn Thursday\, July 25\, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.\, Bartow History Museum welcomes guest speaker and author Robert Jones\, President of the Kennesaw Historical Society. Mr. Jones will discuss the turning point of the American Civil War. \n\n\n\nThe year 1863 started in a promising manner for Confederate forces when Robert E. Lee won his most renowned victory during the Battle of Chancellorsville in early May. However\, an early-July trifecta of catastrophes at Tullahoma\, Gettysburg\, and Vicksburg put the South on the defensive. After losing an opportunity to destroy the Union army under General William Rosecrans at Chickamauga in September\, and suffering two losses in Chattanooga in late November\, the South would never regain the offensive. \n\n\n\nThis Evening Lecture will take place at the Bartow History Museum located at\n\n4 E. Church Street in downtown Cartersville. Parking is available next to the building. The lecture is free to members and included with the price of admission for not-yet members. For more information on this and other BHM programs\, call 770-382-3818\, ext. 6288 or visit our website at www.bartowhistorymuseum.org.
