SUMMARY:Bartow History Museum: Georgia Archives Month
DESCRIPTION:Bartow History Museum Celebrates Georgia Archives Month\n\n \n\nIn recognition of Georgia Archives Month\, Bartow History Museum will present a special Lunch & Learn program called "Treasures from the Archives." The program will take place on Wednesday\, October 15\, 2014\, at noon\, with BHM archives assistant Sandy Moore discussing the importance of archives and highlighting interesting items and stories from the archives of the Bartow History Museum\, including some surprises found along the way.\n\n\n\nSponsored by the Society of Georgia Archivists\, Archives Month is a way to celebrate the value of Georgia's historical records\, publicize the many ways historical records enrich our lives\, and recognize those who maintain our communities' historical records. One of the key ways in which the Bartow History Museum fulfills its mission to preserve Bartow County history is through the collection and preservation of historical records such as photographs\, family\, business\, and civic papers\, newspapers\, genealogical records\, and other materials. The BHM archives contains over 15\,000 images\, thousands of paper records\, bound newspapers from the 1860s through the 1960s\, maps\, oral histories\, and much more. These materials are preserved for future generations and are available for public research. The archives is located at 13 N Wall Street in downtown Cartersville and is open on Tuesday through Friday\, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Research assistance is also available. \n\n\n\nLunch & Learn will take place on October 15\, 2014\, at noon\, and guests are invited to bring a lunch. Bartow History Museum is located at 4 E. Church Street in downtown Cartersville. The lecture is free to members and included with the price of admission for not-yet members. For more information on this and other BHM programs\, call 770-382-3818\, ext. 6288 or visit our website at www.bartowhistorymuseum.org.
