SUMMARY:Helping Hummingbirds Program and Hike
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Renee Carleton\, Associate Professor of Biology at Berry College\, will lead a program on making your yard more appealing to hummingbirds. Topics will include how to set up a feeder\, migration patterns\, recognizing native & migratory species\, and hummingbird friendly plants.  Programs will be at 10:30 & 11:30 am and 12:30 & 1:30 PM. In addition to her faculty position\, Dr. Carleton is editor of the Georgia Ornithological Society's journal\, a Master Gardener Volunteer\, a federally licensed bird bander\, and a small animal veterinarian.\n\n\n\nTrails will be open for interpreted or self-guided hikes & there will be a craft and activities for children. Admission is $3 per person/max $10 per family but is free to Preserve members.

LOCATION:FOR GPS: ENTER DOUTHIT BRIDGE RD\, PAULDING CO\, then follow gravel road to gate. DO NOT USE VINEYARD RD IN GPS: ACCURATE RESULTS NOT AVAILABLE IN GOOGLE MAPS OR BING From I-75: Take Exit 285\, Red Top Mountain and head WEST (away from the State Park). Go straight at the traffic light\; road becomes Old Alabama Rd. Proceed on Old Alabama for approximately 7 miles. At stop sign\, turn LEFT onto Hwy 61. Follow Hwy 61 for 3.8 miles\, then turn left on Douthit Bridge Rd (at Birchwood subdivision). ++After .4 mi the road becomes one lane unpaved\; proceed to fork in road and take right on Vineyard Rd\; continue for another 1.6 mi (passing through two gates) to The Pettit Preserve. Parking is in a graveled lot just before you get to the Learning Shed. From Dallas at intersection Hwy 61/Cartersville Hwy & Hwy 6/Memorial Dr: Proceed north 11.5 miles on Hwy 61 North/Cartersville Hwy. Turn RIGHT on Douthit Bridge Rd at Birchwood subdivision.
