SUMMARY:There & Back Again: Summer Solstice Hike @ Pine Log Creek Trail
DESCRIPTION:There & Back Again Hiking Society: Summer Solstice Hike\n\nCelebrate the longest days of the year with an evening hike!\n\n\n\nWhen: Thursday\, June 20 | 6pm - sunset\n\nLocation: Pine Log Creek Trail\, meet us there!\n\nLength: 4.5 mile loop total\, but we will decide as a group how far to hike!\n\nRating: Moderate\; described as "rugged" by most sites\n\nDog friendly trail! Feel free to bring your four-legged friends!\n\n\n\nDirections via Bartow County website (www.bartowga.org/bartow_county_trails.php): "Take I-75 to Exit 293\, US 411 north approximately 8 miles. Turn right onto GA 140 east toward Waleska. Continue approximately 3 miles to Pine Log Creek Trail System parking area on left."\n\n\n\nTrail map: http://www.bartowga.org/departments/Keep_Bartow_Beautiful/Christmas_tree/pine_log_creek_trail_map.jpg\n\n\n\nDescription of area\, from AtlantaTrails.com: "The Pine Log Creek Trail winds through a beautifully rugged\, rolling forest on a double loop\, trailing through a forest of shady pine and deciduous trees north of Lake Allatoona. The hike's highlight is undoubtedly the remote\, water-filled pond on Pine Log Creek's eastern loop\, where crystal-clear\, chilly water fills the remains of a historic rock quarry framed in giant\, jagged rock outcrops. The quarry's geology is stunning: the exposed rock is layered and dramatically folded\, in symmetry with the rippling waters of the quarry pond. Fish bask in rays of sunshine in the quarry's shallows\, and tall grasses line its shores. It's a picturesque retreat and the perfect place for a mid-hike picnic."\n\n\n\nUpdates and more information can be found on Bartow Library's Facebook page and There & Back Again Hiking Society's Facebook group www.facebook.com/groups/BCLSHikingSociety/. Stay tuned\, like our Page\, join the Group\, or send your email address to meghan@bartowlibrary.org for questions and to stay up-to-date on all the hiking club's outings. Happy trails!
