Meet a real NASA astronaut at Tellus Science Museum! Our guest will share how inspiring mentors led him to a career in science and how he was selected to fly in space. He spent two years training to operate the space shuttle and manage thirty-one different experiments. One of the most fascinating parts of his mission involved a specialized role as a payload specialist focusing on crystal growth. On Earth, gravity pulls on liquids and gases, which can change how crystals form. In the weightlessness of space, crystals can grow much larger and more perfect than any found on the ground. Hear what it felt like for him to see Earth from 255 miles above and learn about NASA’s future missions to the Moon and Mars. He will even reveal how space technology helps people right here on Earth. After the talk, you can meet him in person for a photo opportunity!
