Recreation Department Internship

Position Description (List duties, responsibilities, etc.)
 
 
• Assist Recreation Center staff with daily facility operations and customer service.
• Greet patrons, answer general questions, and provide information about programs, schedules, memberships, and facility guidelines.
• Assist with setup, breakdown, and supervision of recreation programs, special events, camps, classes, and community activities.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment by inspecting activity areas and reporting safety or maintenance concerns.
• Assist with recreation equipment and supply inventory, check-out/check-in, organization, and basic upkeep.
• Support registration, attendance tracking, data entry, filing, and other routine administrative tasks as assigned.
• Observe and assist staff with facility opening/closing procedures and enforcement of Recreation Center rules and policies.
• Provide support for youth and adult activities while demonstrating professionalism and positive customer service.
• Complete assigned projects and other duties that provide exposure to municipal recreation operations.

• Ability to communicate effectively with children, adults, coworkers, and the public.
• Ability to follow instructions, work as part of a team, and take initiative on assigned tasks.
• Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office or similar programs.
• Interest in recreation, sports, fitness, event planning, community programming, or public service.
• Ability to remain attentive to safety and maintain confidentiality when appropriate.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule that may include some evenings or weekends, depending on programming needs.
 
 
 
Experience and Training:
 
Undergraduate Intern:
  • Must be enrolled or be a recent graduate of an accredited university or college.
  • Classified as an undergraduate student and provide an unofficial transcript and resume.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Graduate Intern:
  • Must be enrolled or be a recent graduate of an accredited university or college.
  • Classified as a graduate student and provide an unofficial transcript and resume.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
