Alphabet Collins and the Georgia Institute of Genetics

The Bartow History Museum welcomes Mary Norton to the museum on January 31st from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. to share the story of Bartow County resident and County Agent, Alphabet Collins.  Attendees will learn Collins’ professional impact on the cotton economy from the 1916 – 1970s as well as his legacy that continues to impact Georgia agriculture today.  According to Norton, “The story of Alphabet Collins is one of the best kept secrets in Georgia.”  Norton’s goal is to help share with the community his story and the importance of the Georgia Institute of Genetics for future Bartow County residents.

About the Speaker
Mary Norton’s professional background has been in healthcare.  She graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS in Nursing and from the University of Maryland with a Masters in Shock Trauma. Mary and her husband Bob returned to Cartersville in 1997 to take care of Valley View, a farm and antebellum home that has been in Bob’s family for five generations. She was introduced to Alphabet Collins and the Georgia Institute of Genetics in 2002 when working on Special Projects for Dr. Randy Piece, a past President of Georgia Highlands College.
