Description
The History and Art of Calligraphy
Lecture and Workshop
Bartow History Museum welcomes Joe Head as speaker at the upcoming Evening Lecture on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 7 PM. Head will discuss the art and history of calligraphy, a highly decorative and artistic handwriting used for centuries. Having taught calligraphy classes since 1977, he comes with a wealth of knowledge on the history and technique of this ancient craft. His presentation will also include discussion and examples from U.S. history and from the archives of the Bartow History Museum. This program is open to the public and is free for BHM members and included in museum admission for non-members.
Bartow History Museum is also hosting Joe Head on Saturday, June 7, for a one day calligraphy workshop. Learn to give a touch of class to your envelopes, cards, letters, and holiday greetings. This course will highlight basic scripting techniques using the broad pen and will feature the lowercase italic hand. Designed to introduce the beginner to basic letter forms associated with the italic alphabet, instruction will include lecture time and scripting demonstrations.
