Historic High Country Travel Association to meet at First Presbyterian Church of Euharlee
The Northwest Georgia’s Historic High Country Travel Association will meet in the city of Euharlee at the First Presbyterian Church located at 61 Covered Bridge Road on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 10:30 am.
“Financing and Incentives for Tourism Development” and will be presented by the following panel:
- Bruce Green & Cindy Eidson, GA Department of Economic Development
- Sally Mrus & Cherie Bennett, Department of Community Affairs
- Tina Lilly, GA Council for the Arts
- Billy Peppers & Kim Carter, Office of Downtown Development
At the juncture of Euharlee Creek and the Etowah River, lies the City of Euharlee, which for thousands of years was inhabited by Native Americans. The cities name is a derivative of a Native American word meaning, “She laughs as she runs.” The phrase refers to the sound of the creek as it moves toward the juncture with the river. There is much to learn about Euharlee and one important part of her past and present is agriculture. In fact the Euharlee Farmers Club, established in 1883 is the oldest continuously operating farmers club in the world.
Today visitors can come and visit Euharlee and walk across the covered bridge, enjoy river outfitter for paddling Euharlee Creek and the Etowah River, check out the museum and historic buildings, and currently the old mill is being in the process of being restored. Also a great destination for foodies with Johnny Mitchell’s, Food Truck Fridays, and a BBQ Festival. History, outdoor activities and good food! A Great Combination and reason to Visit Euharlee!
