Piedmont Radiation Oncology Launches New Cancer Support Program for Community

Cancer Support Group

Cartersville, Ga. — Piedmont Radiation Oncology in Cartersville has launched a new cancer support program designed to provide encouragement, education and emotional support for individuals and families impacted by cancer, strengthening access to comprehensive, patient centered care in the local community.

The program was formally recognized during a recent community event attended by healthcare professionals, supporters and community members, marking an important addition to local cancer care resources. The initiative supports Piedmont Healthcare’s mission to make high quality care more accessible while addressing the physical, emotional and mental challenges patients and caregivers face throughout the cancer journey.

During the event, featured speakers included a local oncologist and a licensed therapist, who highlighted the importance of treating the whole person — not just the disease. Presentations focused on navigating treatment, maintaining emotional wellness, and supporting patients and loved ones throughout diagnosis, therapy and survivorship.

Volunteer Michelle Martin said the program was created to offer a safe, compassionate environment where patients, survivors, caregivers and family members can connect, share experiences and receive encouragement.

“This support system is about ensuring that no one faces cancer alone,” Jan Martinson, RN Oncology Navigator at Piedmont Cartersville said. “We want to offer hope, practical resources and a community of understanding for everyone affected by cancer.”

In keeping with Piedmont Healthcare’s commitment to compassionate, high quality care close to home, the program will offer ongoing opportunities for education and peer support. Planned activities include regular support meetings, educational sessions, guest speakers and community gatherings throughout the year.

Community members interested in learning more or participating in the cancer support program are encouraged to reach out for additional information.

The next cancer support meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Hope Center, 100 Market Place Blvd, Suite 102, Cartersville, Georgia, 30121.

The launch of the program represents a meaningful step forward in expanding local support services and reflects Piedmont Healthcare’s continued commitment to caring for the community — mind, body and spirit — throughout every stage of the cancer journey.
