Shorter University of Rome, Georgia, is currently accepting applicants for the position of Campus Minister.  Shorter University is a Christ-centered University affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board and requires employees to be committed Christians.
 
The Campus Minister is responsible for the leadership of the university’s Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM), and serves as a Christian counselor to students, faculty and staff.
 
Job Responsibilities:
Ministry Responsibilities
1. Must be willing and able to provide counseling services to students and faculty to make referrals to other appropriate counselors and agencies.
2. Oversee and coordinate the ministry of the local Baptist Collegiate Ministries organization, including programs, study groups, retreats, and mission projects.
3. Participate in department-sponsored activities such as student conventions, retreats, conferences, mission projects, etc., most of which would involve travel including some out-of-state and occasionally overseas travel.
4. Maintain a personal program of continuing education that includes personal study time in preparation for teaching assignments and participation in other educational opportunities such as seminars, workshops, and courses.
5. Performance of various ministerial duties such as participation in campus-wide religious activities and other events that seek a ministerial presence for invocations, special prayers, etc., officiating at weddings and funerals, hospital visitation, etc.
6. Evangelize students, faculty and staff with the gospel message and seek to influence their decisions regarding their personal relationship with Jesus Christ as both Savior and Lord.
7. Attempt to relate to all students, regardless of their denominational or church background, including non-Christians and international students providing special programs to meet their needs were appropriate.
8. Be a role model for students in the areas of Christian family life and churchmanship.
9. Encourage students to be involved in an on-going discipleship program that may include a variety of programs sponsored by the BCM and/or local church as well as personal study time.
 
Administrative Duties
1. Maintain financial records of local BCM ministries, sending reports to the state office and other appropriate entities such as associations that make contributions.
2. Train, supervise and provide resources for volunteer student leaders of the Baptist Collegiate Ministries organization.
3. Attend appropriate committee meetings with student leaders, associational leaders, campus ministry staff, university officials, etc.
4. Maintain correspondence with the state office, BCM supporters, alumni, student missionaries, and other appropriate groups.
5. Coordinate a program of recruitment for student members and leaders of Baptist Collegiate Ministries.
6. Assist churches and associations in their ministry to and with university students.
 
Public Relations
1. Must be able to represent Shorter University and the denomination through such assignments as Christian Focus Week,
Confluence weekend, preaching assignments, and other speaking opportunities.
2. Must relate to the pastors and churches of the local associations that financially support the BCM program through attendance at ministers' conferences, participation in committee meetings and speaking in local churches.
3. Develop positive relationships with appropriate university administrators and faculty members to interpret the BCM ministry to them and enlist their support.
4. Promote the ministry and programs of local Baptist churches and the denomination among students.
 
Qualifications:
  1. A commitment to Christ and the mission of the Baptist Church and a current member in good standing of a Southern Baptist Church
  2. Knowledge of the university’s mission, purpose and goals and initiative in implementing them in the area of Christian Development.
  3. Interpersonal and counseling skills in working with students, faculty, and staff on a one-to-one basis.
  4. Interpersonal communication skills, including proficiency in writing and speaking.
 
Educational Requirements:
Master’s Degree in ministry or related field.
Ordained Southern Baptist minister.
