Part-Time Tennis Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation Department, City of Cartersville
 
JOB SUMMARY: This position works under the general direction of Parks & Recreation management staff and is responsible for planning, organizing, and instructing tennis programs for participants of varying ages and skill levels. This position promotes a positive learning environment, ensures safety, and provides quality instruction while following all City of Cartersville policies and procedures.
 
MAJOR DUTIES: 

  • Provide tennis instruction for youth and adult programs, including beginner to intermediate skill levels.
  • Plan and implement engaging lesson plans and drills appropriate for participant skill levels.
  • Demonstrate proper tennis techniques, rules, and sportsmanship.
  • Ensure safety of all participants during lessons and activities.
  • Set up and break down equipment before and after sessions.
  • Maintain attendance records and report program participation as required.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff.
  • Assist with organizing and supervising tennis clinics, camps, and special events.
  • Inspect courts and equipment to ensure safe playing conditions.
  • Provide excellent customer service and represent the department in a professional manner.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
 KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
  • Must be at least 16 years old (or as required by program guidelines).
  • Previous tennis playing or coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of tennis rules, techniques, and instructional methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants of all ages.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Recreation Athletic Coordinator Manager assigns work in terms of departmental goals and objectives.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include City of Cartersville policies, Parks & Recreation procedures, and established tennis standards.
 
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of planning and delivering structured tennis instruction, requiring knowledge of techniques, adaptability to participant skill levels, and the ability to manage groups effectively.

SCOPE AND EFFECT:   The purpose of this position is to provide quality tennis instruction and recreational opportunities while promoting skill development, safety, and enjoyment of the sport.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with program participants, parents/guardians, and other employees.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to provide instruction, exchange information, and ensure a positive program experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while standing, walking, and demonstrating physical activities for extended periods. The employee may be required to lift equipment up to 25 pounds and perform repetitive motions such as swinging a racket.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:   The work is typically performed outdoors on tennis courts. The employee may be exposed to heat, sun, and varied weather conditions.
