Part-Time Tennis Instructor Monitor

DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation Department, City of Cartersville
 
JOB SUMMARY: This position works under the general direction of Parks & Recreation management staff and is responsible for assisting with tennis programs while monitoring participants and ensuring a safe, organized, and positive environment. This position supports tennis instructors, helps facilitate activities, and ensures all City of Cartersville policies and procedures are followed
 
MAJOR DUTIES: 

  • Assist tennis instructors with program setup, drills, and activities.
  • Monitor participants during tennis lessons, clinics, and camps.
  • Help maintain a safe and structured environment on and around the courts.
  • Set up and break down equipment before and after sessions.
  • Ensure participants follow rules, guidelines, and proper conduct.
  • Provide basic guidance and encouragement to participants as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with instructors, staff, and participants.
  • Assist with attendance tracking and program organization.
  • Inspect courts and equipment to ensure safe conditions.
  • Provide general information to patrons regarding programs and schedules.
  • Support special events, tournaments, and camps as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
 
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Basic knowledge of tennis rules and terminology preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions and support lead instructors.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with children and adults in a recreational setting.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Dependable, responsible, and safety-conscious.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
 
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Recreation Athletic Coordinator Manager or the Tennis Instructor assigns work in terms of departmental goals and objectives.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include City of Cartersville policies, Parks & Recreation procedures, and established tennis standards. 

COMPLEXITY: The work consists of assisting with structured recreational activities and monitoring participants, requiring attention to safety, organization, and the ability to follow direction.

SCOPE AND EFFECT:   The purpose of this position is to support tennis programming by ensuring participant safety, assisting instruction, and helping provide a positive recreational experience.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with program participants, parents/guardians, and other employees.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to provide assistance, exchange information, and ensure a safe and enjoyable program environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while standing, walking, and assisting with activities for extended periods. The employee may be required to lift equipment up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:   The work is typically performed outdoors on tennis courts. The employee may be exposed to heat, sun, and varying weather conditions.
