DEPARTMENT: Recreation Center Manager
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for managing, coordinating, and supervising the Cartersville Recreation Center, including aiding in the delivery of recreation programming.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Help in the planning, development, coordination and supervision of recreation programs for youth, adults, seniors, special needs populations for volleyball, basketball, pickleball and gymnastics within the framework of a prepared budget.
- Maintains records of facility/program usage, expenditures, classes, results and recommendations for rule changes or program expansion.
- Prepare the facilities for programs; perform daily maintenance and preparation of recreation center areas. Purchasing, management and maintenance of related facility recreation equipment.
- Supervise the public usage of Cartersville Recreation Center facilities; enforces departmental rules and regulations.
- Interview, train, coordinate, supervise and evaluate part-time and volunteer recreation center staff.
- Direct contact/coordination with Deputy Director and Director of Cartersville Recreation Department.
- Schedules for the use of Cartersville Recreation Center facilities; plan, organize and supervise special events.
- Develop relationships with program providers and independent contractors, where it relates to basketball, volleyball, pickleball, exercise sessions, etc…
- Reservation and rental procedures. For example, usage of facilities by travel tournament organizations for basketball, volleyball and pickleball.
- Work closely with Gymnastics staff regarding general operations, practices and meets.
- Work closely with maintenance employee assigned to recreation center, particularly in making sure setup/breakdown of events and activities, and general maintenance/cleanliness of the facility and supply inventory.
- Willingness to maintain a visible presence with positive and professional patron interaction.
- Supervision of Adult Athletics, including Adult Athletic Coordinator.
- Perform other related duties as assigned. This position will also have to help with other recreation programming efforts
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of recreation administration with a preferred focus in recreation facility management, rental process, along with volleyball, basketball, pickleball and gymnastic programming.
- Knowledge of the rules of recreation sports, equipment and facilities requirements for a variety of programs.
- Knowledge of department policies, code of ordinances, procedures and American Red Cross requirements.
- Knowledge of CPR and first aid techniques.
- Knowledge of community volunteer resources.
- Skill in utilizing recreation equipment.
- Skill in recreation facility preparation and maintenance
- Skill in serving populations with special needs, such as the handicapped
- Skill in coordinating staff and participants
- Skill in oral and written communication
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four-year college degree; B.S. in Parks and Recreation Administration or related field, and background with a minimum 5-year supervisory experience in Parks and Recreation or related field
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Must obtain Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) Certificate within 1-year.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. Work is reviewed for the nature and propriety of results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include Georgia Parks and Recreation Association guidelines, the American Red Cross, the rules and regulations of various recreation athletic programs, city ordinances and departmental policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied aquatics/recreation and administrative duties.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to plan, implement and coordinate aquatic programs for community residents. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of recreation programs to the community and enhances the public image of the department.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, instructors, Bartow County Health Department, American Red Cross, volunteers, representatives of community organizations, program participants, media representatives, elected officials and the public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, motivates others and provides services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is performed while sitting, standing walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must lift light and heavy objects frequently and be able to distinguish between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in an office, recreation center and cold or inclement weather.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over pool staff, contract instruction and functional supervision over part-time and contract labor.
